The Opening Ceremony of Dual-Degree Program of 2024 Cohort in Environmental Science

     

On the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the founding of the university, the Opening Ceremony of Dual-Degree Program of 2024 Cohort in Environmental Science jointly conducted by Northwest A&F University and University of Arizona was successfully held at our university on September 19th. Vice President Luo Jun, Vice President Charles Wang of the University of Arizona, Director Ken Smith of the Micro Campus, Dean Jia Hanzhong of the College of Resources and Environment, as well as heads of functional departments such as the Academic Affairs Office and the Student Affairs Office attended the ceremony. Over a hundred parents of the new students watched the ceremony online.

Vice President Luo Jun of Northwest A&F University Delivers a Speech

Luo Jun extended a warm welcome to the representatives from the University of Arizona on behalf of the university. He said: "With the successful graduation of the first batch of students from the Environmental Science Sino-foreign Cooperative Education Program this year, our university's cooperative education with the University of Arizona has achieved preliminary results, and a new chapter of academic exchange and cooperation has been opened between the two universities." He also put forward expectations for the 2024 freshmen: "First, to deeply cultivate patriotic feelings and bravely take on the mission of strengthening and revitalizing agriculture in this era; second, to cherish the learning conditions and strengthen international academic exchanges in the field of specialization; third, to adhere to the school motto of 'Integrity, Simplicity, Courage, and Perseverance,' promote the spirit of Northwest A&F University, and be practitioners of ecological civilization construction."

Charles Wang introduced the background of the establishment of the University of Arizona and its educational journey, and pointed out the mission carried by the Environmental Science major in the current era. "I hope that students will seize the opportunity to learn, make good use of the valuable international exchange platform, effectively balance academics, personal life, and cultural experiences, continuously expand their international vision, and grow into well-rounded excellent talents."

Jia Hanzhong gave a detailed introduction to the basic situation of the college, including its history, disciplines and majors, faculty, research platforms, and alumni resources. He encouraged all students to develop strong professional skills to meet current environmental challenges.

Teachers Explain Carefully and Patiently

The first batch of students from the Environmental Science undergraduate education program, jointly run by our university and the University of Arizona, graduated in June this year. As of now, the employment rate has reached 80%. A large number of graduates have entered top international universities such as Imperial College London and the University of Edinburgh for further studies. In 2024, a total of 83 new students were admitted. In the future, our university will continue to deepen exchanges with the University of Arizona, further introduce high-quality teaching resources, expand cooperation in science and education, and create a new pattern of international exchanges and cooperation.
