Fuping Modern Agriculture Comprehensive Experiment and Demonstration Station

Fuping Modern Agriculture Comprehensive Experiment and Demonstration Station is located in the northeast of Dancun Town, Fuping County, covering an area of 60 mu, with an office building of 800 m², a tool shed of 150 m², a cement field of 500 m² and a field road of 580 m. It was established in April 2013 and put into operation in July 2014. Since the establishment of the station, under the direct leadership of the Science and Technology Extension Office of Northwest A&F University and the College of Natural Resources and Environment, the advantages of agricultural technology extension mode based on universities in NWAFU have been fully exerted, and a multidisciplinary team of experts from Northwest A&F University, Weinan City and Fu Ping County has been set up to meet the development needs of modern agricultural characteristic industries in Fuping County and the requirements of science and technology popularization in NWAFU, and fruitful experimental research, demonstration and popularization work have been carried out, striving for the goal of the first-class comprehensive experimental demonstration station of modern agriculture in China.

At present, Fuping Modern Agriculture Comprehensive Experiment and Station mainly undertakes the following five responsibilities: (1) focusing on the scientific and technological needs of persimmon characteristic industry development in Fuping County, and carrying out the research, demonstration and popularization of variety introduction and seed selection, high-yield cultivation and deep processing technology; (2) aiming at the technical problems in the development of dairy goat characteristic industry, and carrying out the cultivation of farmers' moderate scale farming mode, the integrated demonstration of key technologies of modern scale farming ecological cycle, the selection of forage varieties and the research and development of high-quality forage crop planting mode. (3) focusing on the development demand of food and facility vegetable industry in Fuping County, and carrying out research, demonstration and popularization of efficient utilization of soil, fertilizer and water and improvement of soil fertility; (4) undertaking the main work of Heyang Agricultural Environment and Cultivated Land Conservation Scientific Observation Experimental Station of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and carrying out basic long-term data monitoring of agricultural environment, research and popularization of cultivated land conservation and improvement of dry land soil quality; (5) assisting the construction of Fuping provincial modern agricultural demonstration base.

Over the past seven years, Fuping Modern Agriculture Comprehensive Experiment and Station has played an important role in boosting the development of two local leading industries. It has selected excellent varieties of sweet persimmon suitable for processing, introduced high-quality sweet persimmon and new varieties resistant to anthracnose, demonstrated and popularized a new mechanized persimmon cultivation model, pushed forward the integrated technology of water and fertilizer for drought resistance and water saving, and the technology of growing grass and fertility in persimmon garden, which significantly improved the quality of persimmon, effectively solved the problem of excessive sulfur content in traditional persimmon, and provided technical guidance to many persimmon industry companies in Fuping County, and the new persimmon developed was safe. The planting area of persimmon in Fuping County has grown from 80,000 mu in 2012 to 320,000 mu in 2020, and the economic and social benefits have become increasingly prominent. In view of the technical problems in the development of dairy goat characteristic industry, a large number of technical training and consultation activities have been carried out, with more than 5,000 farmers benefiting each year, more than 3,000 mu of high-quality forage planting technology of "grain-to-feed" being popularized, and five demonstration bases of key technologies for large-scale breeding being built, which has greatly boosted the development of dairy goat industry in Fuping County.

In addition, the experimental station has successfully completed the long-term basic data observation and reporting of agricultural environment in the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and the research on organic fertilization of soil fertility in Weibei dryland has achieved phased results. Fuping Modern Agriculture Comprehensive Experiment and Station also fully supports Fuping County's industrial science and technology poverty alleviation work, organizes scientific and technical personnel to conduct technical training for farmers in the front line of production for many times, and does a good job in technical demonstration and assistance.

At present, there are 17 resident experts in the experimental station including 10 from Northwest A&F University and 7 in Fuping County. The experimental station provides good working, learning and living conditions for scientific research, technical demonstration and popularization, technical training, young teachers' station work and students' practice. It has received hundreds of people from inside and outside the province to visit and study every year, trained nearly 100 cooperatives, 3 graduate students and 1,500 farmers, and has undertaken 100 undergraduates’ internships.
